GRAPHIC for DANCE
One may say that founding GfD is no less than a coherent offspring of the loves of my life, so far.
I love dancing. I have been dancing for as long as I can remember. And I studied graphic design, as drawing and colours and creating were as well always a very important part of my wellbeing. So combining both, the graphic and the dance, seems only natural. Even in my studying years, almost all of my projects were about dancing. Nowadays, since I am a passionate Swing Dancer and active in the community, I get more and more requests to design the appearences for dance studios and workshops. Come see my work here in the PORTFOLIO. I am so very happy about this developement as this way I can offer my services and satisfyingly work in the fields that simply interest me the most: everything dancerelated. Well, flowers should be mentioned as my third big topic, as you can see in some of my works. As I am aware that dancers or organisers of dance events often are dealing with rather small budgets, I am open to take on jobs for a lower fare by way of exception. In these cases, I really count on fairness and mutual respect for the time, effort, experience and ability both parties put into the success of the project. Please describe your situation and we will find a solution. |
GRAPHIC DESIGN
Detail of a book, filled with my drawings of finnish and argentine Tango dancers.
Since I was a little girl, I was in love with dancing and I loved to draw. So I naturally used to draw dancers. Particularly ballet dancers. As that's what I indeed always dreamt of, like so many others: to be a ballerina when I grow up.
Yet after I finished school, I took another path, for several good or bad reasons: I studied graphic design in Essen, Germany, focussing on free-style drawing. After my diploma about "Finnish and Argentine Tango" in 2003, I moved to Berlin and became a proper graphic design lady in a rather small agency named jonasgold in Mitte. I stayed there for 6 years. I learned a lot – and I worked a damn lot. I mainly had projects in the sections "Food" and "Real Estate". Both important categories of life – but all in all I was struggling to keep my interest alive. Eventually, after a (too!) long absence, I found my way back home to where I actually belong: I started dancing again. It felt like coming back to life. To find the time to dance, I took my courage in both hands and started off as a freelance designer, at first with an emphasis on book covers with Johnny Bookjacket. But more and more I entered the field where my heart and brain and body anyway were happily spending their time and energy with – which is, and most propably will always be: DANCING. |
I love DANCINGMe as a Cabaret Girl, being 17. This early experience set the tone for my (much) later enthusiasm for Swing.
Some might have sensed it already: My heart
fully belongs to dancing. I was 6 when I started with weekly ballet classes, raised the dose to twice when I was about 12, and ended up training daily when being 15 to 17 years old. I loved it. But I had to face the fact that being a ballerina just wasn't meant for me. After quitting, I was lucky to join a small cabaret group of very young, but very inspired people, and was cheerfully struttin' the stage in stockings during the summers of my 17, 18 and 19 teenage years. It fit my love for vintage things, that now, quite a few years later, is in fullest bloom. Which matches pretty well with my very favorite dance of them all: Swing dancing. There's no other music that effects me the way Swing does. I've been joyously dancing Swing since 2009, on social dancefloors and events worldwide, and a little bit on stages in Germany as well, and by now it fills my live. Also, I am teaching Solo Jazz since 2011 and recently also Lindy Hop. Check my project The Vintage Dance Adventure, if you want to see me in action. Nevertheless, fear not: My interest, inspiration and joy for graphic design is still undoubtably high, and I will put all my knowledge, experience and joy to create into your project. |
